Joan McKenna is a Clinical Therapist committed to walking alongside people with emotional pain. Ms. McKenna received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin and earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Eastern Michigan University. She is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of adults and youth coping with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and family conflict. Joan’s passion is helping adults, children, adolescents and their families cope with the day- to-day struggles of most diagnosis’ but also specializes in the assessment and treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Since this neurodevelopmental disorder strongly impacts school performance, both behaviorally and academically, Ms. McKenna works closely with the child, the child’s teachers, and his or her family in order to increase behavioral and social skills, as well as achieving academic success. Her approach is strength-based and she uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, family Therapy along with Education and skill-development strategies to help her clients meet their goals.
