erasing addiction

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mark Lauzon, LLPC and I am thrilled to be one of Renewals latest editions to the clinical staff. But I’m even more excited to be able to bring to Renewal my passion and expertise in an area that has really burdened my heart – the treatment of men suffering from sexual addiction.

I feel that out-of-control sexual behavior has reached epidemic levels in our country and it’s destroying men, marriages, and families. We see this most commonly in the form of extramarital affairs, high risk promiscuous sex, and pornography use. Sadly, our culture has to burden much of the blame for this growing problem by simultaneously promoting and punishing overtly sexual behavior producing feelings of shame and guilt that most men find hard to break through to find help. The end result is men in isolation with broken marriages and families.

But it’s not all bad news. We are seeing more and more men seeking professional help and beginning the process of rebuilding their lives and restoring their marriages. In addition, the psychology profession has come a long way in understanding sexual addiction and we’re seeing proven methods of treatment emerge. One method that has proven to be very effective with sexual addiction is group therapy. The key reason for its success is it helps to bring men out of isolation and back into community as they seek to recover. Renewal currently offers groups in both our locations for men struggling with sexual integrity issues called the Man to Man Healing Group where we not only teach the key aspects of sexual addiction and provide healthy coping strategies, but we go straight to the core issues that drive the behavior to authentically heal.

In the past six years I’ve worked with young fatherless boys who are being primed for sexual problems, adolescents who are confused about the messages they are getting about sex, men who whose lives are being destroyed by bad sexual choices, and even men who have been incarcerated as sex offenders. They are all victims of the same problem, a culture that encourages and glorifies sex without consequences only to find out too late the consequences are all too real.

The Man to Man Healing Group meets on Tuesday evenings at our Clinton Township location from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings at our Fort Gratiot location from 6:30-8:00 p.m. For more information about the group or to sign up please contact either of our locations.

Don’t forget to keep checking in with our blog weekly because I’ll be posting new entries on a regular basis on not only sexual addiction but other timely topics that will hopefully encourage and challenge you.
